KeymasterRelaunching Midgard…
My name is Jon Capps, I have been around in the gaming industry for a while. My first game was written with Davin Church and was called Galac-tac. I bought Midgard from Time-Space Simulations and rewrote it and ran it under both Delta Games and under Talisman games. Somewhere in the late 90’s I gave up on PBM and gave Davin the company since he still wanted to work on Galac-Tac.
I always intended to rework some of the games in a different fashion (other than PBM). I was working on a PBeM called Knightguild and I took what I learned from coding Midgard and built it on a new platform. Now, I hear some folks would like to play Midgard again. Davin is currently developing a version that will be mostly automatic; but I wanted a more role-playing capable version.
I reinstalled the old Delta PBM system on Hyper-V setup and it runs, and I generated a starting turn. I then extracted all the data. Now I have laid the Midgard data on top of the Knightguild game platform – turns will look a little different (they are sent as a PDF and in color). Input is still the same but will be done on a web site.

ParticipantLooking forward to this. I had a lot of fun some years ago building an app to simplify filling in the Midgard turn sheet, keeping track of options, points expended, and so on. Sounds like the new version will have something like that built in.

MemberWill the GMs each be assigned specific areas, Factions, clans or players? Or will they just take random turns as they come in?

Participantinteresting Question as over the years I thought if I had the resources to get the game redone that it would be very neat idea of having the #0 of each faction run by a differnt person. Making them in a way competitors at times or figuring out ways to prevent conflicts between them.

ParticipantJon,
Did Delta games have another offering before Galac-tac? Seems like I remember a game with a Viking theme. Memory could be failing me, again….-

KeymasterGALAC-TAC was the first PBM game I developed. I have developed / licensed a lot of games through the years. GALAC-TAC, WARLORDS, Global Supremacy (license), GATEWAY, FIRETEAM, Manifest Destiny (license), Crater War (license) and MIDGARD. I may have left off a few – my memory is not all that good!

KeymasterThe way Time Space ran with multiple GM’s was to have the divide the Midgard continent into thirds – which happened to be the way the original FoxPro system was split across their computers. GM 1 ran A-1 thru B-12, GM 2 ran C-1 thru D-12 and GM 3 ran E-1 through F-12.
I tend to think that all the GM’s should pay attention to the GM notes (and other things) that are attached to the Player’s position and keep in the mind the story arc for the area they are in. This would prevent disruption in the event of a GM being sick or moving on.
To answer your question, the #0 in each Kingdom / Faction / Religion is assigned to a GM. It creates some lively discussions on Family dinner night; but we have not decided who will get which ones yet.

ParticipantI love that idea that was always the idea I wanted to go with if I had a game like this. Makes for lots of possibilities of slight changes in the #0 for each faction as various things change in the game.

ParticipantHi Jon I am Jerre Morris’ brother. My friend John Chan contacted me last night after he had contact with Penn Eckert about the relaunch of Midgard. I have a full set of maps from A-1 to F-10 dated 11-1-2001 if that is any help to you. I am willing to make a copy of them and mail them to you. I did have a copy of all my turns of all my clans and cities until a month ago when I decided that there was no reason to keep them to into the fire they went. my email is ichabodshaw@earthlink.net. Looking forward to hearing from you.

ModeratorHi Bob, glad you’re back! Didn’t you and your brother visit me in Ohio back in the 90s?

ParticipantJon,
I am looking forward to playing Midgard again, played in the Early to Mid 80’s with college buddy Brian Schrader. I will try to get him here as well. Truly enjoyed this game.

KeymasterAll – This is not “MIDGARD” of old, it is KnightGuild, and is based off of the old Midgard – but different.
